A regular meeting of the Business Council was held in the Waste Management sector

On 23.03.2023 from 16:00 in the city of Smolyan, a regular meeting of the Business Council was held in the Waste Management sector in the border regions of Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Smolyan, and the activity is carried out under the project "Business Council - BC 6275" financed by the INTERREG V program/ A GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020, Subsidy contract No. B6.3a.18/13.04.2021.

The meeting was attended by 5 representatives from the Waste Management sector from the border regions of Haskovo, Kardzhali, Blagoevgrad and Smolyan. The "Rotary" hall of the "Kyparis Alpha" hotel in the town of Smolyan was engaged. It was technically secured, being equipped with: multimedia, laptop computer, printer, microphone/s and sound system, as well as information boards, banner and presentation materials, according to the requirements of the Interreg V/A Greece-Bulgaria Program Communication and Publicity Guide 2014-2020. In addition, disinfectants were provided, as well as water, coffee, tea to ensure the coffee break of the event.

The moderator of the event welcomed everyone present, giving a few minutes to introduce the new members, then drew attention to the Rules of Procedure of the Business Council.

Citizens and owners of SMEs living and carrying out their activities in the territory of Smolyan district have developed habits for managing non-hazardous household waste. The municipality of Smolyan is one of the few municipalities in the project area that regularly provides information on the possibilities for collecting, separating and disposing of waste from households and from non-hazardous industries. Also, it has already built habits in its citizens for separate waste collection.

The remarks made by the council members were about the proper treatment of waste before it is disposed of in the separate collection containers. At the suggestion of the attendees, the project management team undertook to make a proposal to local authorities (municipal and district administration) to prepare and distribute short brochures with tips on preparing household waste for recycling:

  • – The glass containers are for glass bottles, cosmetic jars, food jars. Glass from windows or mirrors, porcelain, fluorescent lamps and light bulbs are not thrown into them. Before disposing of the glass containers, they must be emptied, rinsed well, and must be free of stoppers and caps.
  • – The containers for plastic are for plastic bottles in which there was water, fresh milk, beer, soft drinks, oil; yogurt buckets; bottles and tubes of sanitary products and cosmetics; crates, pallets, caps, plastic bags. Medicine blisters, oil tubes, household electrical appliances, and other harmful substances are not thrown into them.
  • - IN the paper containers papers with special coatings, sanitary materials, foil, oiled packages, corrugated cardboard are not thrown away.
