On 26.11.2022 a regular meeting of the Business Council was held in Blagoevgrad in the Waste Management sector in the border regions of Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Kardjali and Smolyan, as the activity is carried out under the project "Business Council - BC 6275" financed by the INTERREG V/A GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020 program, Subsidy contract No. B6.3a. 18/13.04.2021

The meeting was attended by 5 representatives from the Waste Management sector from the border regions of Haskovo, Kardzhali, Blagoevgrad and Smolyan. The hall in which the BS meeting was held was technically secured, being equipped with multimedia, a portable computer, a printer, as well as information boards, a banner and presentation materials, according to the requirements of the Interreg V/A Greece Program Communication and Publicity Guide- Bulgaria 2014-2020.

The moderator opened a free-flowing discussion by asking the members present to select an issue. One of the representatives of the sector present made a proposal that BS prepare a short brochure to provide to the local administrations, who in turn commit to its distribution.

The brochure will enable citizens to conserve food resources and reduce food waste as consumers. The guidelines given by the representatives of the sector in this context are in sync with the European requirements, which Bulgaria, as a member of the EU, must also implement. Namely:

  • – When shopping, prepare lists of necessary things;
  • – Check the expiration date and familiarize yourself with the meaning of the markings on the label;
  • – Store foods according to package instructions;
  • – Place the new foods at the bottom of the fridge/cupboards;
  • – Use what is left from the previous meal;
  • – Freeze foods;
