A regular meeting was held in the Health sector

On 26.11.2022 from 16:00 in the city of Blagoevgrad, a regular meeting was held Business Council in the Healthcare sector in the border regions of Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Smolyan, and the activity is carried out under the project "Business Council - BC 6275" financed by the INTERREG V/A GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020 program, Subsidy contract No. B6.3a. 18/13.04.2021

Six representatives of the sector from the border regions of Haskovo, Kardjali, Blagoevgrad and Smolyan attended the meeting organized in this way in the city of Blagoevgrad.

The moderator of the event welcomed everyone present, allowing time for a short introduction of the new members of the BC, and also took a few minutes to present the Rules of Procedure of the BC in Health Care.

The discussion on topics raised by members of the Health Board again turned to the context of staff shortages. A member of the BC gave an example that only one hospital in Bulgaria has an official human resources manager, which is important.

A recently published study was discussed, according to which 1,200 places in medical universities in Bulgaria will be needed on an annual basis to compensate for their shortage in medical institutions, and the same must also graduate. The few remaining nurses/midwives in Bulgaria, namely doctors, often work in 2 or even 3 places.

This is primarily a consequence of the lack of personnel, but also to a large extent due to the low pay, which in turn causes specialists to look for additional work in order to manage to cover their personal expenses.

Unfortunately, it was discussed that this definitely does not increase the quality of the service, and in most cases even worsens it, due to the excessive workload of medical specialists, and in some cases leads to medical errors.

The representatives of the BC in Health agreed that the health sector is very closely related to education, in this sense it was decided to list the shortages (of the relevant personnel) in a general list, to be provided to the Higher Education Institutions, and in addition they would a series of meetings could be organized for graduates in the hope of activating and applying for medicine.
