The first regular meeting of the Business Council in the Healthcare sector was held

The first regular meeting of the Business Council in the Health Sector in the border districts of Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Smolyan was held on 09.05.2022 at 17:30 in the town of Harmanli. The activity is carried out under the project "Business Council - BC 6275" financed by the INTERREG V / A GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020 program, Subsidy contract № B6.3a.18 / 13.04.2021.

The meeting was attended by 6 representatives from the sector of the border districts of Haskovo, Kardzhali, Blagoevgrad and Smolyan. A meeting room at the Local History Institute at the Harmalni Cultural Institute was engaged for the meeting.

The debate logically took its course in discussing the impact of the pandemic on healthcare and how the problems in their healthcare system have emerged. The main problem for the border regions and in particular in the smaller settlements is the lack of healthcare. In the settlements, which are over 50-60 km from a big city, there is a lack of timely and quality medical care, incl. in some places there is a lack of a well-developed pharmacy network, there are no dentists (or they come once / twice a week on schedule), the same applies to GPs.

The members of the business council were unanimous that its first task should be to raise awareness at school age and to activate young people to study medicine or pharmacy, by promising or requesting their employment after graduation and keeping them within region.
