The last regular meeting of the Business Council in the Healthcare sector was held in the town of Kardzhali
On 12.04.2023 at 15:00 in the city of Kardzhali, the last regular meeting of the Business Council in the Health sector was held in the border regions of Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Smolyan, and the activity is carried out under the project "Business Council - BC 6275" financed by the INTERREG V/A GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020 program, Subsidy contract No. B6.3a.18/13.04.2021.
The meeting was attended by five representatives of the sector from the border regions of Haskovo, Kardjali, Blagoevgrad and Smolyan. The hall of the "Europe in dialogue" association, Kardzhali, was engaged for the meeting. The same was provided technically, being equipped - multimedia, portable computer, printer, microphone/s and sound system, as well as information boards, banner and presentation materials, according to the requirements of the Communication and Publicity Guide of the Interreg V/A Greece-Bulgaria 2014 program -2020. In addition, disinfectants were provided, as well as water, coffee and tea to ensure the event's coffee break.
The moderator of the event welcomed everyone present, leaving time for a short introduction of the new members of the business council. A few minutes were set aside for the presentation of the Regulations for the work of the BS in the health sector.
The topic of today's discussion was the uneven distribution of pharmacies in the country. According to those participating in the meeting, the existing pharmacies in the country are fully sufficient to meet the needs of the population. Unfortunately, however, most pharmacies are located in large cities and there are entire municipalities where the population does not have access to pharmaceutical services.
This is also the case in the Kardzhali district, on whose territory there are many scattered small settlements that are difficult to access and in them not only are there no permanent pharmacies, but very often there are no doctors either. The situation in which their residents find themselves is literally life-threatening.
It is often necessary for the mayors/deputy mayors of the settlements to procure the medicines needed by the inhabitants of the given settlement.
It would be difficult to find a way out of this situation, but a member of the council presented his idea that could somewhat alleviate the situation, namely - to offer over-the-counter drugs in grocery stores. Of course, this is a measure that will not solve the problem in any way, but this way a large part of the local population will feel a little more relaxed.
The project management team is committed to the task of bringing together local authorities and pharmacists at a round table to discuss the problems in the sector and share whether the ideas proposed by BS can be implemented.
