A regular meeting of the Business Council in the Health sector was held in Haskovo

On 21.03.2023 at 17:00 in the town of Haskovo, a regular meeting of the Business Council was held in the Health sector in the border regions of Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Kardjali and Smolyan, and the activity is carried out under the project "Business Council - BC 6275" financed from the INTERREG V/A GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020 program, Subsidy contract No. B6.3a.18/13.04.2021.

The meeting was attended by five representatives of the sector from the border regions of Haskovo, Kardjali, Blagoevgrad and Smolyan. The "Knowledge" hall was engaged for the meeting - the town of Haskovo. The same was provided technically, being equipped - multimedia, portable computer, printer, microphone/s and sound system, as well as information boards, banner and presentation materials, according to the requirements of the Communication and Publicity Guide of the Interreg V/A Greece-Bulgaria 2014 program -2020. In addition, disinfectants were provided, as well as water, coffee and tea to ensure the event's coffee break.

The moderator of the event welcomed everyone present, leaving time for a short introduction of the new members of the business council. A few minutes were set aside for the presentation of the Regulations for the work of the BS in the health sector.

The focus of the free discussion was on the presence of numerous gaps and contradictions in the currently effective legislation. As one of the most important problems that the members of the council pointed out is the commercial status of medical facilities for hospital care with dominant participation of the state, which in turn leads to ineffective ways of financing the same.

A member of the council present at the meeting explained to the project management team how, when there are sufficient funds in the Regional Health Funds, especially in small settlements, hospitals are closed due to the lack of patients and, accordingly, of funding. Thus, doctors working in places do not manage to earn enough money, even for their own salaries, hospitals are closed and the few remaining people in the border municipalities do not have access to hospital care.

The sector council members present at the meeting, together with the project management team, decided to organize a round table between representatives of the NHIF, the local authority, doctors and the patient, with the aim of initiating legislative changes and health reform in a way that which will be beneficial to all concerned.
