A regular meeting of the Business Council in the Waste Management sector was held in Simitli
On 25.02.2023 from 16:00 in the city of Simitli, a regular meeting of the Business Council was held in the Waste Management sector in the border regions of Blagoevgrad, Haskovo, Kardzhali and Smolyan, and the activity is carried out under the project "Business Council - BC 6275" financed by the INTERREG V program/ A GREECE-BULGARIA 2014-2020, Subsidy contract No. B6.3a.18/13.04.2021.
The meeting was attended by 5 representatives from the Waste Management sector from the border regions of Haskovo, Kardzhali, Blagoevgrad and Smolyan. The hall in which the BS meeting was held was technically secured, being equipped with multimedia, a portable computer, a printer, as well as information boards, a banner and presentation materials, according to the requirements of the Communication and Publicity Guide of the Interreg V/A Greece program- Bulgaria 2014-2020. In addition, disinfectants were provided, as well as water, coffee, tea to ensure the coffee break of the event.
The moderator of the event welcomed everyone present, giving a few minutes for the introduction of the members, then drew attention to the Rules of Procedure of the Business Council.
The focus of the discussion was the treatment of hazardous waste generated by the activities of farmers. The members of the council shared their observations that in Bulgaria there are no waste management practices in general, but it is extremely important to bring clarity and inform people about the damage that hazardous waste causes to the environment. One of the most common hazardous waste in our daily life is the packaging of plant protection products, which are subject to specific control and treatment.
The members of the council shared their experience with some of the EU member states in which farmers have a contract with companies that collect, store and destroy hazardous packaging.
Unfortunately, Bulgaria is quite far from the measures taken by developed countries. In this regard, recommendations will be drawn up for conducting information campaigns in the municipalities, which will activate the citizens, and in particular the farmers, to properly manage their hazardous waste, while at the same time maintaining a high quality of the environment.
