About Interreg

Greece and Bulgaria, two neighboring countries with rich backgrounds, have been entering an era of closer co-operation since the late 1990s, thanks to the INTERREG Greece-Bulgaria program.

The main idea behind INTERREG is that countries have problems that can be solved better if they work together with their neighbors than if each of them remains closed within their borders. For this reason, in our program we promote activities that bring our people together.

One should not look beyond the land and the rivers we share and move to the roads and then to the culture, food and traditions. In any case, what happens on one side of the border affects the other side. The need for joint action is gradually becoming normal rather than exceptional.

We focus in Northern Greece and Southern Bulgaria around our common border.

All our actions are held in the region of Evros, Kavala, Xanthi, Rhodopes, Drama, Thessaloniki, Serres and in Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Kardzhali, Haskovo.

We work with public and other institutions on both sides of the border that can benefit and positively impact the widest possible population, funding a very diverse range of activities that fall into the sectors of competitiveness, environment, culture, transport, health and social issues

For this reason, the European Union together with Greece and Bulgaria provide 130,000,000 euros from 2014 to 2020!

We are improving cooperation on issues of common interest and tackling the challenges of the modern age in a more efficient and effective way. Our ultimate goal is a better everyday life.

We cooperate! We act together and we all win!
